This winter Booster will be offering CARB Clean Truck Checks for eligible California clients. With thousands of California client trucks on the road, we are bringing this inspection service directly to your vehicles as part of our dedication to efficiency and sustainability.
The Clean Truck Check was developed by CARB after the California Senate passed Senate Bill 210 which directed the agency to develop testing that would protect California’s air from harmful heavy-duty truck emissions. The program combines vehicle testing requirements, and emissions monitoring techniques to ensure that certain classes (heavy-duty vehicles) of trucks that use California roadways have fully functioning emissions control systems. Similar (but not identical) to a smog check, these tests will start to be required biannually in October 2024. In January 2027, the tests will increase to be required quarterly.
In addition to testing itself, the program includes an expansion of enforcement strategies to ensure the regulations are followed, including efforts to identify vehicles in need of repair, and also to make sure that any necessary repairs are done.
Alert: CARB will conduct roadside & random inspections. Fines and registration holds will be levied for non-compliance.
The goals of the CARB Clean Truck Check program are to guarantee significant reductions in smog-forming and carcinogenic toxic air pollution. This reduction will help California reach federal air quality mandates. Most importantly, it will help all of us ensure healthy air in California’s communities.
Fact: Vehicles can be tested up to 90 days before their due date.
There has been confusion from fleet operators across the state, so please use the below information to determine if you should be having your vehicles inspected regularly to comply with these new rules.
Do you need to have your vehicles inspected?
Yes
Nearly all diesel and alternative fuel heavy-duty trucks, buses, and other vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating over 14,000 pounds that operate in California are subject to the compliance deadlines mentioned above. Affected vehicles include hybrid trucks and buses, commercial vehicles, privately-owned vehicles, government vehicles, and vehicles registered outside of California. CARB has a handy fact sheet for compliance.
There are exceptions for our public service clients:
Federal vehicles not registered in any DMV jurisdiction, or California local and state government vehicles exempt from DMV re-registration requirements are exempt from CARB clean check requirements. More information on exempt vehicles can be found here.
Current Booster California customers can take advantage of Booster’s CARB Clean Check Inspection service, allowing them to complete the inspection during off-hours while their vehicle is being fueled. The testing does require vehicles be turned on, so key or remote ignition access will be necessary to complete the process.
Rest assured that CARB Clean Truck Testing with Booster is certified with credentialed CARB testers and verified equipment. The test results are sent directly to CARB and can be accessed by the customer directly on the CARB website.
If you have questions about the Clean Truck Check, please contact your Booster service representative for more information.
